Roy McCready Photography is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and minimizing our impact on the environment.

At Roy McCready Photography, we recognise that our work as a product photography studio has an environmental impact - from energy use in the studio to materials and travel associated with location shoots. We are committed to operating responsibly, minimising waste, and continually improving our environmental performance in every aspect of our business.

Our Policy aims to:

Our Commitments

  1. Energy Efficiency

    • Use energy-efficient LED lighting and low-energy equipment in the studio.

    • Power down all lighting, computers, and equipment when not in use.

    • Use video and phone communications when possible to limit travel and save time

    • Use rechargeable batteries for all equipment

    • Install energy efficient Infrared heating system

    Materials, Props, and Set Design

    • Prioritise reusing and repurposing props, backgrounds, props and set materials.

    • Resell or gift unwanted or expired electronic or computing equipment

    • Use recyclable, biodegradable, or sustainably sourced materials for set builds and packaging.

    • Store, donate, compost or recycle unwanted props and materials rather than sending them to landfill.

  2. Waste Reduction and Recycling

    • Minimise single-use plastics and packaging on set and during product handling.

    • Separate and recycle waste including paper, cardboard, plastics, and batteries.

    • Encourage clients to supply products with minimal or recyclable packaging when possible.

  3. Sustainable Procurement

    • Work with suppliers and partners who demonstrate a commitment to sustainability.

    • Choose local suppliers to reduce transportation emissions.

    • Use eco-certified printing and digital delivery systems for proofs and final images.

  4. Travel and Location Work

    • Schedule shoots to reduce unnecessary travel and combine jobs where feasible.

    • Walk to work when shooting studio based photography.

    • Offset unavoidable carbon emissions through verified environmental projects.

  5. Studio Practices

    • Use non-toxic and environmentally friendly cleaning and maintenance products.

    • Maintain studio equipment regularly to extend its life and efficiency.

  6. Continuous Improvement

    • Review this policy each year to identify new opportunities for sustainability.

    • Stay informed about evolving sustainable photography practices, materials, and technologies.

    • Engage clients and collaborators in supporting shared environmental goals.
